Getting started with BAUWELT

This guide gives you an introduction to BAUWELT In case you have a specific question please contact us.

User Account

The most important part to successfully use the BAUWELT computer infrastructure is your ETH username and password, called NETHZ-Login. You should have received your user name and password by postal mail.

We highly recommend to set your personal password by first logging in on https://password.ethz.ch/ with your current credentials. Then choose a personal password.

In case you did not receive an NETHZ-Login please contact the BAUWELT IT Team.

Every BAUWELT service is accessible by your NETHZ-Login.

Computer Workstations and Rooms

There are several locations where you find BAUWELT computer workstation equipped with the software needed for your work.

Please note, you can use every computer available in the rooms. If a specific event is scheduled, this event take precedence over your individual work. You can find the schedule online at https://booking.bauwelt.ethz.ch/ or next to the entrance door of each of the BAUWELT computer rooms. The computer locations that are not bookable can be used at any time during the opening hours.

Data Storage Server

A central data storage server provides the space necessary to store your data related for your courses and lectures. On the BAUWELT workstation computers, access to the data storage is instantly available after the login.

Cloud Storage

Alternatively to the data storage server you can use Polybox, the ETH-wide in-house cloud storage. Please note that access on file level (by Polybox Client) is very slow and not available on the BAUWELT workstations. We recommend to use the web interface https://polybox.ethz.ch to share and access files ore folders.

Mailbox

Each student gets a mailbox on the central ETHZ mail server with the address YOUR_USERNAME@student.ethz.ch. You can find more information about how to connect the mailbox here: https://unlimited.ethz.ch/display/itkb/Mailbox

Your own Laptop

You can also bring your own laptop with you and roam around the whole ETH campus.

Internet Connection

To connect your laptop with the ETH Campus Network and the Internet you can use the campus-wide Wifi network. More information can be found here https://unlimited.ethz.ch/display/itkb/Wi-Fi.

You need a new Laptop?

You can buy a very robust and long-living laptop computer on http://www.projektneptun.ch/. All models presented on Project Neptun are well tested and ready to support your hard work during your study.
