Remote Access

Overview

The remote desktop access, which was an ad-hoc solution during the COVID pandemic, got replaced by a newer technology called Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI).

The VDI technology offers significant advantages: the next free VDI is automatically assigned at login, so there is no need for consulting the free/busy list anymore. Also there is no VPN required to connect to a VDI session.

Please note that a reduced set of software is installed in the VDI environment and is not identical to the BAUWELT PC installations.

The VDI pool has the same size as the old remote desktop pool. Therefore the number of connections stays limited.

Setup the VDI client

  • Open https://id-vdi.ethz.ch/ in the browser

  • Click on + Add Server
  • Enter the name of the connection server: id-vdi.ethz.ch
